Our family loves cooking meals outside, especially on our Blackstone. There is so much versatility in what we can cook on it, and since the griddle is large we’re able to make a large batch of whatever we’re cooking. We especially love this Blackstone Fried Rice, it keeps the mess out of the kitchen and is a healthy and filling dinner recipe.
Let’s fire up that grill!
Why a Blackstone is Perfect for Fried Rice
A Blackstone Griddle is perfect for this recipe because it is able to reach high heat quickly creating similar flavors of a traditional wok fried rice. Everything is able to be cooked on the Blackstone together, eliminating multiple dirty dishes and a lot of kitchen cleanup. I love how easy it is to cook a quick dinner!
Fried Rice Ingredients
This recipe is pretty versatile and you can swap out items as desired. Our family prefers to not eat any soy products, so I love using my stir fry sauce as the final punch of flavor while cooking. If soy doesn’t bother you, go with that instead!

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to use cooked rice?
Yes, the rice has to be cooked ahead of time. I typically cook mine in the Instant Pot an hour ahead of time, then fluff with a fork while it cools. Some people recommend that the rice has been cooled in the refrigerator overnight, I never have and the fried rice still turns out great! I think the trick is to fluff the rice well right after it cooks and when you throw it on the Blackstone, be sure to break up any large clumps with your spatula
Do I have to use a Blackstone?
No, if you don’t have a Blackstone no worries! You absolutely can make this using a normal skillet on the stove. This recipe does make a really large batch of fried rice, if your skillet isn’t overly large I would recommend cutting the recipe in half.
What other variations can I make?
The possibilities are pretty endless. If you’re vegetarian, you can leave out the chicken or swap for tofu. We also love using this recipe with shrimp. Also – I just use whatever frozen mixed vegetables I have in the freezer, sometimes it’s peas, carrots, corn, etc. and others are stir-fry veggies. Both are delicious!
